Quick update from Tom

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Hope everyone’s well. I’ve been superbusy recently, hence lack of posts! Been finding time to fit lots of music-related things in, though. Including the Chorlton Green Festival on Saturday. Some really good performances by Thingummybob and the Thingummyjigs, plus a really good regae band who I’d never heard of before, called the NSC Love Band… One of those band names that sounds kindof unremarkable – but the band were absolutely great.

I wished I’d been able to see more of the festival – I missed bands such as Samson and Delilah and acts such as Vanessa Lewis and Robin Mukherjee.

I’ve been busy doing a new job over in Sale – doing IT-related stuff, which is actually really fun. And the other website-related freelance work and music stuff is also going well. I’m still doing the open mic each Monday at Trof Northern Quarter, and helping out on the Bay Horse open mic each Tuesday.

And this blog itself is going well, generating lots of page views, especially to the open mic night. It’s nice to be doing physical jobs in Manchester day-to-day, and also be doing the “virtual” web stuff and the music stuff.

Audioscrobbler

Just found the coolest audio website! It’s a system that notes down what music you’re listening to and recommends new tunes for you, based on what other people with similar tastes are playing. From what I’ve seen it just seems spot on – and it looks like it’s recommending some obscure but good acts. I’ve downloaded the pluggin for iTunes and it’s faithfully recording what I’m playing at the moment (http://www.audioscrobbler.com/user/tomkerswill/) and building up some recommendations.

Highly recommended – have a look at http://www.audioscrobbler.com

Both gigs last night went really well. The first was in the Dartmouth – a half hour set supporting the Tweak Freaks. Their sound system sounded really great and the Dartmouth’s a good venue to play – nice and cozy but with quite a big capacity.

After that, I headed up to PigOutz, Totnes’ newest venue. It’s a stylish cafe bar. This was the opening night, and hopefully there will be a lot more music to come.

It was also the tsunami fund-raising gig in Totnes – so after my two gigs I headed up there and caught the last 20 minutes of a good set by the Gentlemen Rebels. Finally went to a fantastic after party at Broomborough Farm. A really good night. Got up bright and early today at 9 am, so had just 4 hours sleep. But feel fine and not really hungover either! I’ll have a relaxing day, perhaps do some song writing or just general guitar strumming!

Two Totnes Gigs on the Twelfth

Wednesday, February 9th, 2005

I wish there was a word for “gig” that begins with a T, because that would make the headline better… Two free gigs in Totnes on the 12th February… I’m on around 8pm at the Dartmouth Inn, then 10.15pm at PigOutz, the new venue in Totnes. Should be good fun!

BBC Devon

Saturday, January 15th, 2005

Happy new year everyone! I’ve just returned from doing a live acoustic session and interview on BBC Devon. The show also includes a preview of brand new song “New Feeling” which I’ve spent this week recording with producer TuneRise. Plus a bit of chit-chat in between. Here’s an mp3 version of the broadcast. Watch this space for more information on “New Feeling” appearing shortly..

Acoustic showcase in Exeter

Sunday, December 19th, 2004

Thanks so much for everyone that came to the gig in Birmingham. It went really well and was great fun. The venue is superb, and thanks to James and Melissa, who organise the Cellar Door each month. Tomorrow, 20th December, there’s an acoustic showcase at the Three Fat Fish in Exeter. You’ll be able to catch a 45 minute helping of my songs, and sets from other local musicians. Should be a great event! Hopefully see you there.
