Hey
I’m running another night at the Carlton Club, Whalley Range, this evening. As always, cheap beer and great music. We’ve just fixed up a last-minute set from Simon and Hannah (Pablo’s Finest Hour), who are going to bring their instruments and do a few tunes too… For more info on all of the acts, just click here and to join the Facebook event click here.

Hey - just a heads-up for all the musicians out there. EXR, who run a lot of gigs in Manchester, run a weekly jam session at the Lounge Bar, Wilbraham Road, Chorlton.
The session is acoustic - they have congas, djembes, bongos, tambourines etc set up as well as a bass amp and a good PA/mics etc. They’re also looking to get a good percussion section together - anyone can join in. Also acoustic artists and bands are welcome to come and do a short set/jam.
EXR are running an acoustic competition at the same time. For more details on all this see: http://exr.org.uk/

There’s a brand new open mic night happening every other Sunday at Trof in the Northern Quarter, and I’ve been asked to run it…. The first of the new series of open mics is this Sunday, 5th August… drop me a comment if you’d like more info or you’re interested in playing!

As Manchester International Festival (MIF) gets under way, there’s an alternative event happening, featuring tens of events across the next couple of weeks. It’s called Not the Manchester International Festival. Head to their official website for details of all events. One thing we’re getting involved in is a Songs for the Bath Tub on Tuesday, 10th July at Trof in the Northern Quarter. I’m playing there, together with Risa Hall, Feldspar and Ragz. Will be a goodun!

Small World Festival was lovely. Wet, but lovely. Saw some great sets, including music by Martha Tilstone and Carrie Tree. There are four music tents, with several smaller jamming spaces scattered in between. And everything’s solar-powered.
Everything went swimingly with the weather - until the Sunday, that is - when water actually began coming into our tent. However, we survived, and made it back to Manchester on the Monday… pictures of the festival will be up very soon!

Happy bank holiday! I’m just off to play at the Small World festival in Headcorn, Kent. It’s my favourite small festival in the UK. Here’s some pictures from Small World 2006…

Well, looks like the festival season is officially underway. Over the last weekend of April, All Tomorrow’s Parties took place. By all accounts, it was an excellent festival. Blog reports from the Indie Credential and Gill Rickson make me determined to actually try and make it next year - as long as it doesn’t clash with a future MahoneyFest
There’s some fantastic festivals to look forward to this summer, including Small World Festival (which is always lovely), Glastonbury (alas, no tickets
) and End of the Road Festival (new last year… rather late, in September)!

Ryan has put up some really good pictures of our Sweetwater Brewery gig…
Meanwhile I have some of the Georgia Trip including pics of CJ’s Landing and Sweetwater Brewery and pics of MahoneyFest 2007 festival.
Brewery gig was awesome… really great to see the Pennies playing again too. Photos coming up shortly…

I’m playing a gig at the Sweetwater Brewery tonight, downtown Atlanta, supporting the very excellent Pennies…
From what I hear, it’ll be pretty mad… everyone buys a pint mug, and then they’re free to help themselves to any of the kegs of beer. Get down there early if you can - things are kicking of from 5pm. Should be a good one!

Hey everyone!
Georgia has been great so far. MahoneyFest 2007 was an awesome start to the trip, with beautiful weather and many beer kegs. Made loads of good friends, and had a lovely time. Some pictures are here: MahoneyFest pictures. I probably should have been more selective when choosing, but there were so many pics! Loads of other people are uploading theirs too - so I’ll probably add to the collection soon…

Hey everyone… I’m heading off to Atlanta tomorrow. Really looking forward to the trip. I’m playing at the MahoneyFest, Box Springs, Georgia and have then got gigs in Atlanta and Athens…
Back in the UK, we’re finalising a small tour with Midget and Giant and other acoustic acts. Dates include Manchester, Songs for the Bath Tub on May 8th, Leeds on May 9th, London on May 10th and Birmingham, Sunflower Lounge on May 11th… Will be hectic but good!

Announcing many gigs far and wide…
The Birmingham date on 11th May (Sunflower Lounge) is going to be great… always fun to play with Midget and Giant. This’ll be hot on the heals of our 8th May Songs for the Bath Tub at Trof Northern Quarter (Manchester), which is one of my favourite events to do…
Before all that, I’m off to Atlanta, Georgia. Can’t wait to play at Mahoneyfest and to meet all the musicians out there!
Writing this from Somerset, where I’m taking a quick break. Tomorrow I’m playing in Crediton, Devon — though I’ve not put this one on the gig calendar. It’s at an old people’s home there, at the heady hour of 2.30 pm. Whee!! Hopefully afterwards I’ll be out in Exeter or somewhere though -which is always good fun!
