Small World Festival 07

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

Small World Festival was lovely. Wet, but lovely. Saw some great sets, including music by Martha Tilstone and Carrie Tree. There are four music tents, with several smaller jamming spaces scattered in between. And everything’s solar-powered.

Everything went swimingly with the weather – until the Sunday, that is – when water actually began coming into our tent. However, we survived, and made it back to Manchester on the Monday… pictures of the festival will be up very soon!

Small World!

Happy bank holiday! I’m just off to play at the Small World festival in Headcorn, Kent. It’s my favourite small festival in the UK. Here’s some pictures from Small World 2006

Trof in the Northern Quarter

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

Trof Northern Quarter opened in 2007 (building on the well-known Trof brand, which began in Fallowfield)

5-8 Thomas St Northern Quarter
Manchester, M4 1EG
United Kingdom

There’s also an open mic night here every Sunday – arrive as early as possible to get a slot! Sign up begins at 8pm, with the first act on at 8.30pm.

It’s worth checking out the: Trof Northern Quarter Open Mic Facebook.

Back in 2007, it was briefly home to my Songs for the Bath Tub series of acoustic nights on the first Tuesday of every month.

Festival Season Underway…

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

Well, looks like the festival season is officially underway. Over the last weekend of April, All Tomorrow’s Parties took place. By all accounts, it was an excellent festival. Blog reports from the Indie Credential and Gill Rickson make me determined to actually try and make it next year – as long as it doesn’t clash with a future MahoneyFest 😉

There’s some fantastic festivals to look forward to this summer, including Small World Festival (which is always lovely), Glastonbury (alas, no tickets 🙁 ) and End of the Road Festival (new last year… rather late, in September)!

I’ve had a rest-day today… headed up deep into the Appalachian mountains. It was little bit misty up there, but still amazing. The trip is almost at an end though… one more day left tomorrow, then I’m heading back to Manchester in time for Tuesday morning. We’ve got a really good mini-tour coming up after that.

Got some other good stuff coming up too – so keep in touch!

Brewery gig was awesome… really great to see the Pennies playing again too. Photos coming up shortly…

Gig in a Brewery

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

I’m playing a gig at the Sweetwater Brewery tonight, downtown Atlanta, supporting the very excellent Pennies…

From what I hear, it’ll be pretty mad… everyone buys a pint mug, and then they’re free to help themselves to any of the kegs of beer. Get down there early if you can – things are kicking of from 5pm. Should be a good one!
