My daydreams took me

Amazon Web Services Blog: S3 Infinidisk for EC2

Very interested in using S3 Infinidisk for EC2 to load in data on demand from S3. We use S3 as a backup for several big websites. Loading that into an EC2 backup server takes hours - so this solution might enable us to have an EC2 backup instance up and running in a few minutes, if we needed it.

Not sure about the lack of caching though — presume this means having to retrieve data from S3 each time it’s accessed, which is sloooow.
