Hi! Just to let you know, I’ve done a session for QT radio, with a mix of old and new tracks, and quite a lot of talking as well! Tune in from 1pm today (OK, that’s in ten minutes’ time!). You can listen at the QT radio broadcast page.
Hi,
I’m posting a link to the acoustic version of Amber Smile which I recorded at King’s Hall in Newcastle. I’m preparing an EP of all of the songs, which will be available shortly. Hope you enjoy this in the meantime though.
I love Manchester… everyone here is so friendly - and it’s a very small community of musicians. Just come back from playing at the Skiving Scholar - which nestles under the railway arches on Oxford Rd as you head into town. Saw lots of great music, and got chatting to some very interesting musicians…
There’s a big range of Open mics in Manchester - they’re really good places to start off, and also a good chance to hear some up-and-coming music.
Come to the AppleAcoustic night this Monday! It’s here: The Adam & Eve, Bradford Street, Digbeth, Birmingham. Tel: 0121 693 1500 It starts at 8.30pm, there’s good cheap pub food available, and the event itself is free to get into. I’ll be doing a full set and playing lots of new stuff. It would be lovely to see you there!
Here’s a rough recording of new song Wash Away:
Wash Away - Newcastle
Recorded live at the Newcastle King’s Hall…
Okay… I’m on the train back to Manchester now, after a tiring but really worthwhile couple of days. I enjoyed doing the recording, and catching up with some mates. Also saw some great concerts at Newcastle university. Didn’t get all that much sleep though!
Here’s a rough-mix version of Sometimes these words, recorded live at King’s Hall, Newcastle.
The recording sessions in King’s Hall in Newcastle went really well yesterday. We set up in the huge, empty hall with a pair of microphones and a powerbook and just recorded everything. Then stayed up till 4am mixing it all… I think there will be a bit more work to do on it all today, but we’re pretty pleased with how the songs are sounding. They’ve certainly got that live feel!
Hey hey! I’m scribbling this from the train to Newcastle. Had to get up ridiculously early this morning (for me, anyway - 6am. And it was dark outside still…) Now it’s shaping up to be a beautiful day, and the sun is shining on the Peak District. I’m looking forward to recording some of the new stuff in a big hall in Newcastle. When it’s mixed - all being well - we’ll put some of it up on the site…
Been a good week so far. I’ve begun working with flute-player Alice Burke, and we’re hoping to begin playing in Manchester soon. Last night we headed to Matt and Phred’s (yes, it really is spelt like that) for the jazz jam night (to watch, rather than play!) and tonight, I headed to Chorlton for the Iguanna bar open mic, and saw some great music.
Tomorrow, bright and early, I head off to Newcastle to do recording for two days. By the end of that I should have 3 songs recorded. And the recordings should be representative of what I’m doing live. You’ll hear them here first!
