Went to a really good little acousticcy night at the Manchester Phoenix yesterday. It was a fundraiser for the nascent Tsn Centre - a project to provide community music and learning in the city.
Highlight of the show was headliner Nancy Cunliffe - who plays harp, guitar, and a strange Thai string instrument called the Kim - kinda similar to a hammer dulcimer. Really great stuff, anyway - so good the I bought a CD…
She’s doing more gigs in Manchester in the near future, including one at Fuel in Withington - so I’ll keep you posted.

We’ve finally got a new Mailing list system. You can select the area you’re living in - so we only send you details of gigs that are near you. We only send emails out occasionally, so if you think you might like to come to a gig some time in the future, just head over here!

Finally arrived back in Manchester this afternoon, after a pretty full-on week in Birmingham and the West Midlands. Thanks to all of you who came to the Flapper and Firkin last night - had a great time playing.
Wednesday night is the open mic night at Fuel in Withington. I’m heading down there with a load of people. Should be a good night I reckon! Starts 8.30pm ….
Thanks to everyone who came to the Flapper and Firkin. It was really good to see everybody, and I especially enjoyed playing the new stuff. Nice place too, right on one of Birmingham’s Canals. Thanks to Simon from Josie Darkfolk, who organised the evening.
Someone pointed out that when I tell people my website address on stage I should really spell it out. Because people have spelt my name in various ways such as “Tom Kurswill”, “Tom Kurswell”, “Tom Kirswill”, “Tom Curswell” and lots of weird and wonderful variations. Hmmm… right I’ll do that in future. But in the meantime hopefully people will find this post if they do a search for one of those weird spellings.

Hehee, now I find myself in a random café in Coventry. It’s not as bad as I thought
The cafe is called the Tin Angel and is very nice. En-route to Leamington, and then back up to Brum for a night out tomorrow I think…
The first Birmingham gig was really good fun last night. Really enjoyed being at the Cellar Door again, and met loads and loads of cool people…. Doing it all again on Monday, 19th September at the Flapper and Firkin, in central Birmingham…

This week’s recommended music are from Glasgow and they’re called Down The Tiny Steps. They’re vaguely acousticcy, quite zaney, and good fun to watch. Worth a look: Down the Tiny Steps

Another gig to anounce - Monday 19th Sept, 8.30, Flapper and Firkin, Birmingham. Entry is £3… it’s a chance to see several good Birmingham acoustic acts. More details coming soon….
Spain was great - we all had a really good time. Visited Madrid, Seville and Granada. I spent the whole of the last afternoon busking on a random park bench in Madrid - very fun indeed.
Anyway - I’ve been back in the UK for a while. We played a gig at the Globe in Exeter, which went well, and I’ve since been relaxing in Somerset. Finally, heading back up to Manchester later today.
Two gigs in Birmingham coming up - on the 14th and 19th of September. Check the Gigs page for more info….
