Exmouth gig tonight

Filed under: General — Tom @ 11:45 am

Flew back from Bratislava / Slovakia today. Left behind a hot, sunny day and arrived in Heathrow to rain :-( I had a fantastic time though, and met loads of really cool people. Also sold a few copies of the EP.. I’ll write loads more about the trip a bit later on. I’m scribbling this at Paddington waiting for a train towards Exeter…

Come to Exmouth tonight if you’re in the area - for a nice relaxed gig in Exmouth: GWRSA Club, Victoria Rd at 7:00pm

Filed under: General, Musicians News — Tom @ 9:05 am

Any musicians out there in the Devon area want to go to a new open mic night? Ade in Ottery St. Mary is organising one this Thursday (26th May) that sounds amazing. It’s an intimate candlelit basement venue with a good variety of music. If you’re interested drop me a line and I’ll forward you his contact details. I won’t be able to make it this time as I’ll by flying off to Slovakia to play the most interesting gig I’ve ever been asked to play - at a wedding in a castle. Can’t wait!

The new design evolves..

Filed under: General — Tom @ 5:30 pm

Hi again! We’re busy updating the site at the moment… it’s a new look to coincide with the launch of the new EP, called Mind’s Eye. The graphics and EP packaging have been designed by Tom Stephens at Funk4You.co.uk. I have a stack of EPs sitting in front of me now and they look really cool (there’s a few pics up on the site if you’d like to have a look). We’ve gone for a nice textured card feel, rather than those boring jewel cases. One guy at the Angel last night bought a copy without having heard any of my music - just because he liked the look of the box!

Faceometer

Filed under: General — Tom @ 8:54 pm

Faceometer, who often plays at the Angel open mic in Exeter has got a blog which I’ve just run into on the net, including
this little insight into the open mic. The Angel open mic is well worth a look if you’re in the area - it’s every Thursday and there’s always a good selection of music.

The launch date has been put back to Monday, 16th May to enable us to actually press the CDs ;-) Also on the 16th, catch a live set from us at the Plymouth Phoenix, supporting Midori. Keep checking here for more news on the EP and forthcoming gigs!

Nitin and the Angel

Filed under: General — Tom @ 11:36 pm

Sounds like an intriguing title… isn’t really! Saw a magical gig at the Lemongrove in Exeter. Nitin Sawhney, complete with an array of guest vocalists. Absolutely brilliant. Then we travelled along to the Angel, were I did a quick slot on stage - played Believing the News, My Mind’s Eye (both on the forthcoming EP, plug plug ;-) ) and a very new song, only just finished and provisionally entitled Wash Away Your Fear.

After that, I stayed up all night watching the election.

Which reminds me - great VJ at the Nitin Sawhney gig. Some crazy visuals, but the funiest were of Tony Blair / Michael Howard / George Bush….

Nitin Sawhney’s new album - Philtre - sounds like it will be good - although at the gig I instead opted to buy his album Human. Have a look at the other albums here: Nitin Sawhney Albums

Turn down the garage music!

Filed under: General — Tom @ 10:32 am

Looks like Birmingham needs to turn down its garage scene. According to Robert Gale:

British police have moved to swiftly shut down a pirate radio station after pilots complained that thumping dance music was drowning out instructions from air traffic controllers as they landed at a nearby airport, a report said on Tuesday.

Pilots landing passenger jets at Birmingham airport in central England reported hearing loud bursts of “garage”, a cutting-edged form of dance music characterised by frantic beats and prominent, repetitive baselines.

… So there you have it. Not sure I’d describe garage as “cutting edge” anymore though!

Went to Fat Catz in Torquay tonight, and played a couple of songs. Everyone seemed to like it… Fat Catz is a nice venue too!

Tomorrow I’m heading to the Lemongrove to see Nitin Sawhney, before going to the Angel in Exeter for 11.00 to play at the open mic. Should be a fun evening.

I’ve been featured as “Artist of the Month” on Skidmark.org - head along there for an interview, plus a chance to win a signed copy of the new EP, to be released Monday…

Nitin Sawhney
